Actress Jyothika says that Mammootty is the real hero of South India. Jyothika also said that Mammootty chooses characters without considering his star value. Jyothika’s words were while speaking in an interview given to Film Companion.
I have acted with most of the South Indian superstars. But I think Mammootty is the real hero. When I met him for the first time when he went to act in ‘Kathali’, I asked him,
“Sir, how did you choose such a character?” He asked me a question in return, “Who is the real hero?” A real hero should not be someone who only goes and beats the villain, does action or acts in love scenes.
A hero should play different roles. He had a lot to lose if this character hadn’t come right’, Jyothika praised Mammootty.

Actor Siddharth, who was with him in the interview, also spoke appreciating Mammootty’s choice of films for the next two years. Actor Siddharth responded that Mammootty’s film choices in the last two years were unbelievable.
Siddharth said that Mammootty is doing great roles even at this age without any pride or ego. The actor added that his courage to do films like “Nanpakal Nereth Mayakkum” and “Kathal” was immense and his curiosity to discover new characters was incomparable.
