June 5 Covid Update: 111 new cases in Kerala; 98 came from outside

On June 5th, the state has added 111 new Covid cases, marking the highest single day turnout; out of which 98 are from outside; of these, 50 are from overseas. 48 came from other states, while 10 got the disease through transmission. 3 health workers have turned Covid positive. Incidentally, the state has also marked 22 samples that turned negative.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters that the results of the 39 tests turned negative. With this, the total number of cases in the state rose to 1699. 726 were treated, while the state has got 973 active cases right now. The number of new Covid cases in the state, with the district wise break up is as follows,

 

Kasargode – 1

Kannur – 1

Wayanad: 3

Kozhikode – 4

Malappuram – 18

Palakkad – 40

Thrissur – 8

Ernakulam – 10

Idukki – 3

Kottayam – 1

Alappuzha – 5

Pathanamthitta – 11

Kollam – 2

Thiruvananthapuram – 5

 

A total of 3,597 samples were tested by the state today. So far, 79918 samples have been sent for inspection. A total of 72,321 were found to be negative. The state has an active number of 128 hotspots. A total of 1,545 people are under observation in different hospitals across the state. CM added that the state would soon start conducting antibody tests on a massive scale. It has received 14,000 kits via ICMR. 10,000 kits have been distributed to different districts. More number of kits are underway. With this, the state expects to conduct 15,000 antibody tests in a week. This is mainly to check whether community spread has begun in the state or not. If antibody test results become, then they would undergo PCR test.
