July 17: India goes past 10 lakh mark with the highest single day spike of 34,956 cases

During the past 24 hours, a total of 34,956 fresh cases were reported in India, which incidentally is the highest single day spike that the country has witnessed so far. With this, the country also goes past the 10 lakh mark, becoming only third country to do so. With last day’s figure, India has a total of 10,03,832 to its credit. The country has also registered 687 new deaths during the last 24 hours, yet another record figure till date. With this, the pandemic has claimed a total of 25,602 lives from India so far. Ministry of Health informs that the active cases in India stands at 3,42,473, whereas a total of 6,35,757 got cured/discharged/migrated.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi continue to lead India’s Corona chart. However, for the past some days Delhi has consistently been showing less number of positive cases. ICMR statistics show that India has tested a total of 1,30,72,718 samples till day, with country testing a 3,33,228 samples last day. The rate at which new cases are being added to India’s tally is quite alarming, however, the rate of recovery gives some positive figure. Last day, as was released by the Ministry of Health, the recovery rate in the country has crossed 63%.
