Kottayam: A major job racket was busted by the police which duped 630 youths after promising jobs for them in the United Kingdom. The accused belongs to Mundakayam in Kottayam district who around RS 37 crore was defrauded.
The proprietor of Global Supreme Services, K Ramesh of Prasad Colony, Vandanpanthal, Mundakayam was arrested. His agency was based at Thellakom, near Kottayam town. Ramesh was remanded by the court and his office sealed by the police.
Global services had issued advertisements claiming to be the sub-agency of a Kozhikode-based firm and invited applications from job aspirants for openings in the UK. Ramesh charged around Rs 6 lakh from each applicant.
The fake firm assured employment visas for jobs such as security guard, housekeeping supervisor and heavy truck driver in the UK. The company in the beginning of this year sent five people from Kerala to London, however, they were not appointed to any job. When they got to know that they have been cheated, these youths alerted relatives in Kerala.
Several others were sent to Mumbai and all the visa and travel documents given by Ramesh were fake.
