The International Data Corporation (IDC) India has released a report stating that the Indian Smartphone market would achieve a double digit growth in 2018. The report suggests that it is the budget phones, which would form the decisive factor in the growth of the market. During the January – March quarter, about 30 million smartphone units were shipped. This accounts for 11 percent growth on a year – year base. On the other hand, some 55.2 million feature phones were sold during the same period.
It was Xiaomi and JioPhone, which ruled the roost in smartphone and feature phone markets respectively, trailed by Samsung in both the categories. While online platforms proved to be a major force, key players are all pushing their share into the offline space.
