India Post assigns MapmyIndia for e-locations

Setting its new initiative to easing information tracking, the department of posts has assigned a duty on private mapping company MapmyIndia – create e locations. The project aims to seemingly unite various information associated with an address, such as, property title, ownership, property tax, electricity, water, gas, and to name the rest.

As per the reports, the digital address is going to contain a six character alphanumeric for every property. Similar in line with Aadhaar, the pilot phase of this-e location project is going to be implemented in two postal pin codes in Delhi and one in Noida. E-location is going to be hugely helpful for travelers, business operations in the fields of e-commerce, transportation and logistics.

Responding to the reports, MapmyIndia officials made it clear that they had already created a digital address database of over 2 crore eLocs. The company has also partnered with ISRO, while the home grown satellite imagery service ‘Bhuvan’ will aid them in the process.
