The Idukki dam has been opened again. A shutter of the dam was raised 40 cm. It discharges 40,000 liters of water per second. The current water level in Idukki Dam is 2398.9 feet. Idukki Dam has an orange alert. A red alert will be declared only if it is 2399.03 feet. The authorities said that there is no need to worry at present and the decision to open the Idukki dam was taken only in the backdrop of rising water level in the Mullaperiyar.

At the same time, if the spillway shutters of the Mullaperiyar Dam are opened, the action in Idukki will be part of regulating the water flowing from there. Although there is no cause for concern, the district administration has warned those living along the banks of the Periyar to be vigilant. However, this is an unusual situation for the Idukki Dam. The shutters of the Idukki Dam were opened after October 16 when the water level rose due to heavy rains.
