Lucknow: HIV infection spreading in Uttar Pradesh jail. 63 inmates of Lucknow District Jail have been diagnosed with the disease.
Testing has been suspended since September due to a shortage of HIV test kits. Then the inspection was conducted last December.
Information is coming out that 36 more people have been diagnosed with HIV in this test.
On the other hand, the information provided by the authorities is that most of the HIV patients were previously drug addicts.
Jail sources claim that no one has been infected with HIV after coming to the prison and all of them have been infected before.
Jail authorities say that among those who were previously drug addicts, the disease spread through contaminated syringes. Jail authorities also informed that all the infected have been admitted to a hospital in Lucknow.
Health conditions in the jail are being monitored. The Yogi Adityanath administration said that despite the spread of the disease, not a single death due to HIV has been reported in the last five years.
More intensive HIV testing will be conducted in the Lucknow jail in the coming days. The administration has also stated that it will take all measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
