The High Court today said the central government cannot direct the repatriation of migrants in the wake of Covid. The HC said it could not make such a directive to the Center in the wake of a nationwide lockdown. The court asked the government whether the expatriates were being repatriated but the quarantine was in place.
The petitioner pointed out that other countries are taking expatriates back to their countries.
The central government lawyer said in court yesterday that only Kerala is so desperately needed to repatriate expatriates. The plea was heard via video conference.
The petition was postponed to May 2 for consideration.
