The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai and adjoining coastal districts, as the area has witnessed heavy rainfall. Accordingly, the Mumbai Police also advised its citizens to not venture out, unless it is for necessity. The warning issued by IMD covers regions of Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for 48 hours.

Soon then, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also issued a notice to its citizens, instructing the dos and don’ts. During monsoon period, it is usual that Mumbai receives heavy rains. However, with the metro already grappled with Covid issues, the authorities are asking its citizens to be extra cautious. According to the calculations of IMD, in the next 24 hours, the region would get a rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm.
