Pidiana Tara, the Grandmother of the Guruvayur Devaswat, has fallen. She is the oldest elephant in the elephant sanctuary. More than 90 years old. For three years he was in the infirmities of old age.
As per the advice of the expert committee, the papans were under special care. Because it was difficult to sleep, the elephant used to sleep on a specially tied mattress.
Pidiana Tara came during the time of Gajarajan Guruvayur Keshavan. K. Damodaran, the owner of Kamala Circus, held it on May 9, 1957 at the Guruvayur temple.
The last time he participated in the Ekadashi Ezhunnallip of Parthasarathy Temple was 9 years ago. He served in the presence of Sri Guruvayurappa Sannidhi for fifty years. He was an elephant who calmly performed his duty in the temple’s functions including Shivali.
The Devaswom Governing Body honored Tara with the position of Gajamuthassi for her praise service in the presence of Sri Guruvayurappa Sannidhi. Meanwhile, with Tara’s demise, the number of elephants at Guruvayur Devasyam has reduced to 40.
The process will be completed in the presence of forest department officials and the elephant will be taken to Kotanad. After the post-mortem, the cremation will take place in the Kodanad forest.
