The whole world is in awe of coronavirus. Lockdown has been announced in most countries. With this, people can interact with outsiders at home via video calls only. Video conferencing services are gaining momentum during this lockdown. Zoom Video app was a big breakthrough in the beginning. But with Facebook and Google coming to the scene, the competition is getting tougher.
Many video call services, such as Facebook and WhatsApp, have decided to increase the number of attendees per call. Now, Google has announced that it will make the Premium Video Conferencing app free to everyone till September this year.
Google Meat is actually part of the G Suite. Before being renamed, it was known as Google Hangout. Google has been investing for years to provide secure, reliable video conferencing to schools, governments and enterprises around the world. Google’s Vice President Javier Soltero said in a blog post that the meeting will add more features to make it more helpful in recent months.
Soltero has revealed that the daily usage of the ‘Google Meet’ has increased by 30 times since January, hosting 300 million video meetings and adding 30 million new users per day. Up to 250 people can be part of the group calling at once. One Gmail account is enough to sign up. It also has the ability to record conversations with great security.
In addition, it is a browser-based interface. You do not need to install or download anything to run it. All you need is Google Chrome and Gmail account. The free version has a limit of 60 minutes per call. However, this limit will be effective from September only. That is, now you can talk as much as you want through ‘Google Meet’.
