Google drops Smartphone AR platform ‘Tango’

Google announced that it would shut down the AR (Augmented Reality) platform ‘Tango’ project. ‘Tango’, which was specifically made for smartphones, is going to shut the operations completely by March 1st, 2018. Informing the same before the media, Google officials maintained that they were happy over the kind of developments, it had created over the last 3 years.

Introduced in 2014, ‘Project Tango’ uses computer vision to enable various devices in detecting the device’s positions, without using GPS. Google Tango team however would be continuing the operations in the form of ARCore. The platform is designed for building AR aps for devices on request.
