The Competition Commission of India (CCI) imposed a fine of Rs 1337 crore on the tech company Google. The action is for exploiting the supremacy of Android mobiles. The Competition Commission has found that Google has misused Android-based mobile phones for commercial purposes.
Android, the mobile operating system, is owned by Google. Along with this operating system, Google also includes their apps on phones at build time through agreements such as the Mobile Application Distribution Agreement (MADA). The search app, widget, and Chrome browser all come pre-installed on the Android phone. Through this, Google has acquired a competitive advantage over its competitors, the Competition Commission said in a statement.
Therefore, the Competition Commission directed Google to stop the unfair business practices that induce the use of Google Search and to make timely changes to the Android operating system.
