Wildebeests come down on Pathanamthitta – Gavi road. The wild elephants came down between Anatho Dam and IC Tunnel. Due to this, traffic was disrupted for about one and a half hours. KSEB’s vehicle got stuck in front of the elephants. The incident took place around 8.30 am on Wednesday. When the KSRTC bus arrived, the wild animals moved away.
Elephants usually run away when they see vehicles. But this time, Orana, who was in the group, stood blocking the way. Three elephants came down the road.
Elephants crossing the road are a regular occurrence in the Gavi areas, which are part of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The KSEB team was coming from the Pampa Dam area to the Kakkad hydropower project area. They were on their way to Sita from Gavi. In between, the elephants came near the jeep, but without causing any provocation, the officials kept the jeep behind. The KSRTC bus which came through this route also faced a traffic jam. The journey was resumed around 9.45.
