Mohanan Kunnummal stated that they take an affidavit from all the students at the time of admission that if it is found that they have bought, given or encouraged dowry, the degree will be cancelled.
Mohanan Kunnummal said that affidavits are also taken to create awareness among students against dowry.
Under the Dowry Prohibition Act, an affidavit is taken from the students that they agree to cancel the course and cancel the degree if they are found guilty. Initially it was bought from all the students together.
Now Principal takes oath at the beginning of every batch. The VC said whether it would stand legally is another matter.
When he started buying affidavits, there was a question as to whether he had the authority to sign and buy them. The affidavit is written in a special form.
According to the family members, Shahna committed suicide after the groom’s family demanded a large amount of dowry. Shahna was in mental distress due to the fact that the marriage did not take place. Shahna died after being injected with anesthesia medicine at her residence on Monday.
