Ernakulam Pocso Court Judge K Soman sentenced Asfaq to death in the case of rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in Aluva. The verdict came on the 110th day after the crime. On the 90th day, the accused was found guilty. The case was investigated by a 16-member investigation team. Out of the 16 charges against the accused, 13 were convicted. The court had earlier clarified that the punishment will be given only in 13 crimes because three crimes have been repeated.
Kerala is anxious that the court will sentence the accused Asafaq Alam, who showed unparalleled cruelty to a five-year-old child on July 28th, to death. Accused Asafaq Alam was found guilty of sixteen charges. Five of these crimes are punishable by death, including murder. The prosecution argued in the court that the accused, who was not even considered a child, deserves any mercy. The manner in which the child was killed and the place chosen for the same prove the guilt of the accused. The prosecution argued that if the verdict was passed in such a way that the perpetrator of such a heinous crime would undergo conversion, it would send a wrong message to the society.
