The results of assembly elections in four states are out. BJP is making strong progress in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. In Chhattisgarh, BJP is leading but the lead is changing in seconds. Yes, Congress has got a clear upper hand only in Telangana. The Congress has taken the lead in 66 of the total 119 seats, defeating the BRS which came to power in the two assembly elections held after the formation of the state. BRS is second with 45 seats, AIMIM is ahead with five seats and BJP with two seats.
Another thing is that even as the Congress is facing a setback in Rajasthan, reports are coming out that give relief to the CPM. Incumbent MLA Balwan Punia from Bhadra and Girdharilal Mahia from Dungargad are leading. Amra Ram, the party’s state secretary, took an early lead in the Dantarangad assembly constituency in Sikar district but later fell behind. Congress is leading here. Yes, party candidates have contested in 17 seats. CPM has great influence among farmers in districts including Sikar. CPM is also competing with Congress in many constituencies. In the last election, CPM fielded 28 candidates. Two of these candidates managed to win. Meanwhile, CPI is leading in Telangana and Chhattisgarh in one seat each. CPI candidate Kunjam is leading in Chhattisgarh Gonda constituency. CPI is leading in Kottagudem constituency in Telangana.
