Covid update: May 23

Health minister KK Shailaja has announced that 62 new persons have been confirmed by Covid in the state, marking a new height for a single day figure in the state; 3 were turned negative. Out from the districts, Palakkad has seen the largest contribution with 19 new cases, trailed by Kannur with 16 cases. The other new cases reported in the state, are as follows,

Malappuram – 8

Alappuzha – 5

Kozhikode – 4

Kasargod – 4

Kollam – 3

Kottayam – 2

Wayanad – 1

Of these, 18 are from expatriates (UAE-9, Saudi Arabia-3, Kuwait-2, Maldives-1, Singapore-1, Muscat-1, Qatar-1) and 31 from those who returned from other states (Maharashtra-13, Tamil Nadu-12, Gujarat-2, Karnataka-2, Uttar Pradesh-1 and Delhi-1). However, 13 people were diagnosed with the disease through contact; of these, 7 are health workers, with 3 from Palakkad and 2 each from Kannur and Kozhikode districts.

Those who turned negatives are from Kollam, Kottayam and Kasaragod districts. So far, 275 people have been diagnosed with the disease and are undergoing treatment. 515 people have so far been released from Covid; 4 have lost their lives from the state so far, taking the total tally to 794.
