Kerala government maintained that they wouldn’t be changing their stance on making Covid test mandatory for NRIs, who come to Kerala. While submitting an affidavit at Kerala High Court, the state government stated that the move is to protect the people and stop the disease from getting spread. While responding to the collective petition filed by NRI organizations, government pointed that during air travel, both positive and negative people travel together, making negative people prone to catching disease.
The decision of the government to make it mandatory for NRIs to conduct Covid test received flaks from several NRI organizations. Government while imposing the mandatory test on NRIs, maintained that the positivity rate of NRIs remain 1.22, while the figure stands at 0.22 for those who come from other states – making Covid test important for those who come from overseas
