DGP Loknath Behra said that the police department would take strong actions against those who violate the covid protocols. He also stated that the department is done with advising the public. DGP pointed to the decreased covid awareness among the public and the increased number of covid cases in the state. He however maintained that the actions would be centered on six districts – Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kannur and Kasargode. While commenting on the issue, the head of the Kerala police department said that he had come across several incidents, where people were not wearing masks, and maintaining proper physical distancing.

Earlier, the police department had gone with a mild approach by advising the public to follow the covid protocols, which according to the police department, hasn’t been properly followed by the public. Behra made it clear that people have to ensure proper physical distancing while going to shops; shop owners were already instructed to ensure that not more than 5 customers visit their shops at a time. Making it clear that adequate number of police officials were placed in order to observe physical distancing, DGP warned if found violation, both the shop owners as well as the customers would have to bear the wrath of the law.
