The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notification regarding the autonomous status of colleges functioning across the nation. As per the notification, any college, which keeps a minimum stipulated standard as was notified by UGC, could apply for ‘Autonomous Status’. When granted ‘Autonomous Status’, colleges would have the freedom to set up their own syllabi, fee and faculties. The ‘Autonomous Status’ is being given for a period of 10 years initially, while it can be extended further for five more years.
That said the certificates including degree and PhDs shall be awarded by the respective Universities. The certificates however would contain the name of the college.
