The Supreme Court has said that the Gujarat government has no right to release the accused in the Bilkis Banu gang-rape case. The verdict will be delivered by the Supreme Court bench headed by Justice BV Nagaratna. At present the adjudication movement is progressing.
Punishment is for the reformation and reformation of the accused. The rights and justice of the victimized woman should be implemented. The court said that a woman deserves respect in the society irrespective of her caste. The court ruled on petitions filed by Bilkis Banu, CPM leader Subhashini Ali and TMC leader Mahua Moitra questioning the Gujarat government’s decision to release 11 people sentenced to life imprisonment in the case. The Supreme Court had sought an explanation from the Gujarat government for releasing the accused in the case. The Supreme Court stated that this case cannot be compared with ordinary cases, and earlier during the hearing, a bench comprising of Justices KM Joseph and BV Nagaratna had pointed out that the manner in which the accused committed the crime in the Bilkis Banu case was appalling.
