BigBasket is reportedly going to pump in INR 500 Cr for strengthening the back end farmer supply chain. The move is in line with the company’s ambition of expanding the customer base to 20 million by 2020. The investment programme, named ‘Farmer Connect’, plans to bring some 5,000 farmers into BigBasket platform within a year. Right now, the online grocery store has got close to 1,800 farmers in its customer base.
While commenting on the initiative, BigBasket management said that farmers would benefit in terms of price and payment on time. Right now, BigBasket has got 26 warehouses, which serves the need of its vast customer base of 8 million.
