The mother of the murdered five-year-old girl wants Asfaq, the accused in the brutal murder of a five-year-old girl in Aluva, to be hanged immediately. Asfaq should not be allowed to remain in jail for long. The mother said that her daughter’s soul will find peace only on the day of the execution, while the girl’s father responded that his daughter and he had got justice.
Today, the court pronounced the verdict in the case of rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in Aluva. The court sentenced accused Asafaq Alam to death.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh each under the three sections of the POCSO Act. The court awarded death sentence and five life terms and imposed a fine of Rs.7 lakh and twenty thousand.
The court also decided to pay compensation to the child’s parents out of a fine of Rs.7 lakh and twenty thousand.
The boy went missing on July 28, 2023 around 3 pm while playing near his house in Aluva. At 3.30 pm, the bus got off at Aluva and accused Asfaq Alam was going to the empty part of the market with the child.
The relatives came to know that the child was missing around 3.45 and lodged a complaint with the police. Police started investigation. The police reached the child’s house around 5 pm. Nearby CCTV cameras were checked.
After torturing and killing the child, the accused hid the body on the banks of Periyar around 5.30 pm and later returned to Aluva city. The police identified the suspect around 9 pm. The accused, who was under the influence of alcohol, was caught soon after. But the police did not get any information from the accused who was under the influence of drugs.
The search for the child continued all over Kerala throughout the night. A search for the child continued on Saturday morning, July 29. Meanwhile, the body of the child was recovered from the bushes behind the Aluva market at 11 am. The body was cremated on Sunday, July 30 at Aluva after public viewing.
The investigation was fast-paced. On the 35th day after the atrocity, the police filed a 645-page charge sheet in the Ernakulam Additional District Sessions Court. The trial in the case started on Wednesday, October 4.
The trial was on 16 charges against the accused. After a 26-day trial, the court found the accused guilty on Saturday, November 4. However, the court postponed the sentencing hearing the request of the defense counsel to examine the mental health of the accused.
Later, a mental examination was conducted, but the government doctors reported that there was nothing wrong with Asfaq Alam. And then the verdict was pronounced today. Adv G Mohan Raj was the special public prosecutor in the case.
