Rajeev Ravi directorial ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’ (Crime and Punishment), starring Asif Ali in the lead role, will hit theatres on May 27. The film is bankrolled by Arun Kumar V. R. under the banner of Film Roll Productions in association with Collective Studios.
The tagline is a quote from Dostoevsky’s iconic novel Crime and Punishment, though the film has nothing to do with the novel.
The story is written by Sibi Thomas and Sreejith Divakaran. The film revolves around a mysterious robbery in Kerala that occurred in Kasaragod in 2015. The case took a 5-member team from the Kerala Police force to a dreaded village in Uttar Pradesh where they risked their lives to nab the culprits.
Asif Ali will be playing the role of C.I. Sajan Philip. Other prominent actors in the film include, Sunny Wayne, Alencier Ley Lopez, Sharaf U Dheen, Senthil Krishna, Srinda, Madhusoodanan, Mano Jose, Dinesh Pradhan, Deshraj Gurjar, Bobby, Pooja Gurhar, Maheshwari Shekhawat and Sanjay Vidrohi. Dawn Vincent is composing the music and Anwar Ali is writing the lyrics.
Rajeev made his debut as a director with the Malayalam film Annayum Rasoolum (2013).Rajeev Ravi’s second feature film, Njan Steve Lopez was released in 2014. In March 2016, Ravi completed filming of Kammatipaadam, starring Dulquer Salman, which was released on 20 May 2016. In 2013, he received the National Film Award for Best Cinematography for Liar’s Dice directed by his wife Geetu Mohandas.
