4th Saturday holiday for government employees, instead overtime duty; The government ready to negotiate

Giving fourth Saturday holiday to government employees is under consideration. This proposal was raised in a meeting attended by the Chief Secretary and Department Secretaries. The Chief Secretary will discuss the matter with service organizations on the 10th of this month.

The government is considering a new system of holidays on Saturdays and Sundays on the model of the central government. The second Saturday is already a holiday. This move is the first step in the effort to provide holidays on all four Saturdays. The Administrative Reforms Commission had given such a recommendation. As a part of that, there is a plan to make the fourth Saturday a holiday.

The proposal for this was prepared at the Chief Secretary level and given to the Chief Minister. Based on this, it was decided to hold discussions. Discussion with service organizations is on 10th of this month at 2 pm.

It is estimated that if the fourth Saturday is given as a holiday, the government will get financial benefit. Huge fuel cost, electricity cost and water can be saved for office purposes.

Working hours will be adjusted by changing the working hours when the fourth Saturday is given as a holiday. The current timing is 10.15 to 5.15. If this recommendation is implemented, the working hours will be increased by one hour from 9.15 am to 5.15 am.

It is reported that service organizations are in favor of this proposal. But the final decision will be after discussions.
