2274 crore fine not paid: Competition Commission notice to Google

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has issued a notice to Google for not paying the fine imposed for following unfair marketing practices within the stipulated time. This was reported by the Times of India citing officials.

Last November, the Competition Commission imposed a fine of Rs 2274 on Google in two separate cases. The action came after it was discovered that Android-based mobile phones were being misused to ensure market dominance. But against this, Google filed a complaint with the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal. The Tribunal has not yet heard the case. Meanwhile, the competition commission’s notice.

On October 20 and 25, the Competition Commission fined Google in two cases. It was directed to pay the penalty within 60 days. But the company did not pay the fine. After that, a notice has been sent again asking to pay the fine within 30 days. In case of default, the Competition Commission can take action to recover the amount from Google. Google has appealed both cases. If the Tribunal does not stay the Competition Commission’s order within the prescribed time limit, the company will have to pay a fine.
