12,699 crore earned via drinking;Kerala’s 5 year liquor revenue is 54,673 crores!

A huge increase in tax revenue for the government through liquor. The figures of the State Goods and Services Tax Department show that there has been an increase of Rs 2,307 crore in the financial year 2021-22 compared to the previous financial year.

10,392 crores received as liquor tax in the financial year 2020-21. 12,699 crore in FY 2021-22. 54,673 crores in tax revenue received in 5 years. Sales tax and turnover tax as per Schedule of Kerala Goods and Services Tax Act are applicable on sale of liquor.

The sales tax on foreign liquor was recently increased by four percent. 247% tax increased to 251%. With this, the selling price has increased by two percent. Various brands have increased by Rs 10 to Rs 20 per bottle. Kerala has one of the highest tax levies on liquor in the country.
