With various film organizations reportedly going to put an end to the wide release practices in Kerala, it seems like Mohanlal starring ‘Odiyan’ will be the last wide release Mollywood. The decision taken during the meeting of film organizations in Kochi, wanted to curb big movies eating the pie of smaller movies. The meeting has decided limiting the theatre count of movies to not more than 200. According to the reports, the latest decision will come into effect from January 1 onwards.
Earlier, Nivin Pauly starred ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ made a record by releasing in more than 350 screens. The numbers were bettered by two Tamil movies – ‘Sarkar’ and ‘2.0’, the latter making into more than 450 screens. However, all the numbers will be shattered once ‘Odiyan’ hits big screens. While the exact numbers are yet to make their presence felt in the media, the tickets of this VA Shrikumar directed movie, has been sold out like hot cake. But, it has to be seen whether this Mohanlal flick would be the last movie to release on a wide scale in Kerala.
