Finally, putting an end to the controversies, Vivo has backed off from sponsoring IPL 2020, which is to kick start in UAE next month. It is learnt that, Vivo’s decision to back off from IPL is only temporary in nature, while the Chinese company is expected to return next year. It was in the year 2018, which Vivo took IPL sponsorship, for five years, by paying a sum of INR 2,199 Cr. For each season, Vivo would be paying a sum of INR 440 Cr.
India – China border issues have escalated to one of its worst patches of recent times. The border issues got reflected on Indian government banning several of the Chinese products and apps. Meanwhile, there was outcry in the middle, as Vivo – a top Chinese company – was sponsoring the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 2020 edition. With the central government taking no major decisions on this regards, it also received flaks from several corners. The IPL governing body, which convened Sunday, also decided not to remove Vivo from the position. Meanwhile, BCCI is yet to comment on Vivo’s decision to back off from IPL.
