The allegations that the US is attempting to store them during international competition for medical equipment for Ottawa Covid are strong. Canada will supply 30,000 ventilators, masks and medical equipment locally, with the US blocking the supply of 30 million masks to the province of Ontario, Canada. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at a press conference on Tuesday.
Trudeau had earlier said that he was in talks with the US and was planning to expand exports, but the new decision was made because the country was prepared to deal with any emergency. The crisis came after US President Donald Trump called on US manufacturing unit 3DM to stop exports of N95 masks to Canada and some Latin American countries.
Canada is accused of blocking the supply of 30 million masks shortly after Germany alleged that the US had stolen two million N95 masks ordered from China for the German police. Trudeau said 22 local manufacturing units from Canada had come forward to manufacture medical equipment and sought the services of Nobel laureate Arthur B. Macdonald to ensure the efficiency of ventilator manufacturing. Other companies in the country will also manufacture medical equipment containing N95 masks.
Exports of US masks have been blocked by the Korean War-era Defense Production Act. Trump has called for more U.S. companies to give up their products in order to effectively block Covid. The Canada N95 masks were not manufactured locally. The N95 masks were simply out of reach for the common man.
But with U.S. exports blocked, Trudeau has announced that he will manufacture masks locally and make them available to all people in the country. At the same time, the United States is trying to stock up on masks and medical equipment. The US administration has asked the TM to produce more masks.
