The Enforcement Directorate said that Trinamool Congress spokesperson Saket Gokhale used more than one crore rupees collected through crowdfunding for social needs. It has been stated in the ED court that the Trinamool leader used the collected money for personal purposes including buying wine and preparing a feast. Sources said that the agency has summoned Rahul Gandhi’s aide Alankar Sawai in connection with the investigation. During the interrogation, Saket Gokhale had said that Alankar Sawai had paid him Rs 23.54 lakh for managing the social media.
Gokhale collected 1.07 crore rupees through crowdfunding during the period 2019-2022. Alankar Sawai, who is participating in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, has sought more time to appear before the ED.
Sawai, a former banker, heads Rahul Gandhi’s research team. In the ED court, Gokhale said that if he wants to know more details about why Alankar Sawai gave him the money, he should ask him.
The agency told the court that Gokhale had prepared a fake electronic document in the name of an entity called ‘OurDemocracy.in’, collecting money from the complainant and others through a private company called Gianttech Pvt Ltd.
