Country’s longest suspension bridge with glass surface coming up in Maharashtra A 407 meter long suspension bridge is being constructed at Chikhaldara, a hill station in Amaravati.
A glass surface will be prepared at 100 meters in the middle of this. It is also the second suspension bridge in the country with a glass surface.
It also has the feature of being a single cable suspension bridge for the first time in the world.
At Chikhaldara, 70 percent of the construction including pillars of the suspension bridge between Harikan Point and Goregat Point has been completed.
Construction is expected to be completed by July 2023. The expected cost is Rs 35 crore. The country’s first suspension bridge with a glass surface is in Sikkim.
Currently the longest suspension bridge in the world is the Sky Bridge in the Czech Republic, which opened in May 2022; Length 721 meters. The one at Chikhaldara will surpass the 397 meter long suspension bridge in Switzerland.
The Forest Department gave permission for the project in January 2022. This bridge crosses over the Melghat Tiger Sanctuary. Therefore, the bridge is expected to bring great changes in the tourism sector. Chikhaldara is the only hill station in the Vidarbha region, situated along the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway.
