A report in Telegraph has accused social media giant Facebook for connecting extremists one another in its platform. The report pointed out that Facebook had been the dominant part in connecting Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) extremists in over 96 countries. It was the feature of ‘Suggested Friends’, which according to the report that bound extremists together. The ‘Suggested Friends’ feature by Facebook uses the service of complex algorithms to connect people sharing common interests.
Telegraph reports that the study, ‘Counter Extremism Project’ conducted by a nonprofit organization, would soon be published later this month. The report further stated that out of the 1,000 Isil supporting profiles examined by the researchers, less than half were suspended by Facebook over a period of six months.
