TPCC president K Selvaperunthagai has made it clear in his statement that Union Minister Suresh Gopi has made baseless statements without understanding the Supreme Court judgments regarding the security of Mullaperiyar. He has only created fear in the people of Idukki district. The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee strongly condemns such baseless statements, added the TPCC President. Tamil Nadu people want to know if these are the views of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government on the Mullaperiyar issue. He also demanded that not only Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but also Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan clarify his stand on the Mullaperiyar issue. He also said that Suresh Gopi’s statements which threaten inter-state relations with Kerala are condemnable.
Suresh Gopi’s Mullaperiyar issue being discussed by the Congress in Tamil Nadu will be a setback for the BJP Tamil Nadu leadership. While raising the issue in Kerala will have an impact in Central Kerala, there is no doubt that Suresh Gopi’s stand will backfire on them in Tamil Nadu. Congress also aims to secure votes in Mullaperiyar influence areas in the upcoming elections. Suresh Gopi responded a few days ago that the current condition of Mullaperiyar dam is spreading fear.
