Amidst all such protests from round the corners, Railways has decided to withhold the decision of removing Malayalam as an optional language for attempting Railways examinations. Along with Malayalam, yet another regional language, which was retained by Railways, is Bangla. The decision over regional languages, was accompanied by the decision of relaxing the upper age limit of employees. The upper age limit is now fixed on 30 for general candidates, while reserved candidates can attempt the examination up to 35 years of age.
Earlier, when Railways issued the notification for Assistant Loco Pilots, it had decided to cut off the option of writing the examination in regional languages including Malayalam. It went onto create a widespread protest across the state. Railways Recruitment Board further added that candidates can enter the portal and edit their optional language now.
