The report that is coming out now indicates that AV Gopinath has joined the CPM. At that time, CPM central committee member AK Balan had met with AV Gopinath in connection with joining the party. On the other hand, Gopinath said that the New Kerala audience is being held with the aim of development beyond politics and that he will participate in the program regardless of politics for the development of the country. In 2021 Gopinath resigned from the Congress. The resignation was due to disputes with the leadership during the last assembly elections. Gopinath had first come out against the leadership alleging that he had been severely neglected by the party. Gopinath also announced that he will contest against Shafi Parambil in the Palakkad constituency in the Assembly elections that day.
Realizing the consequences of such a decision being taken by an influential leader like Gopinath, the Congress immediately intervened and resolved the issue. It was K Sudhakaran who was the KPCC president and the then working president who persuaded Gopinath. Although he resigned from the party, he was not ready to go to the CPM. CPM has tried to woo Gopinath several times, but his stand was that he would not join any other party. But reports say that the positive attitude towards the New Kerala Sadas and the meeting with AK Balan are all part of the CPM entry. There is no doubt that if a leader like Gopinath joins the CPM just before the Lok Sabha elections, it will be a huge blow to the Congress.
