The Ministry of Railways announced that 84 per cent of work on much-awaited India’s first vertical lift bridge – the New Pamban bridge- connecting the divine pilgrimage centre Rameswaram in Pamban island to the mainland India has been completed.
This state-of-the-art bridge is expected to be completed by March 2023.
All 333 piles completed and the work of 101 pile caps and substructure has also been completed. Track laying work is in progress.
The existing Pamban rail bridge is 105 years old, built in 1914 to connect Mandapam to the Rameswaram island situated in the Gulf of Mannar.
