A group of students from Kerala are trapped at a hotel room in Rome for about a week ,
following the Coronavirus outbreak. After the central government had issued a circular to check the spread of the diseases ,many Indians, including 6 students, are held up in Rome . The Central Govt. in India recently made it mandatory that passengers who travel to India from Italy must produce corona negative certificate issued by the Italian government.
Students namely Sai Das from Pattambi and Aabid from Manjery native are the ones stuck up in a hotel room in Rome.
“Indian embassy only arranged accommodation for us at a hotel in Termini near the airport. The embassy has not provided any other help to the stranded Indians in Rome. Malayali associations have taken the effort to arrange food for us,” said the students to a popular daily.
“We informed the airport staff that it is difficult to get a corona negative certificate from the hospital for the people who are not having any symptoms of the disease. But they were not ready to lift the restriction as per the Indian government order. Hence, the flight to India left the airport without passengers. But in the next few days, many flights left with Indians who had pre-booked tickets from Italy to India. They were allowed to travel as comprehensive medical examination were carried out at airports in India,” said the students.
