July 20: India registered 40,425 positive cases and 681 deaths, total cases crossed 11 lakh

During the past 24 hours, a total of 40,425 fresh cases were reported in India, which is the highest single day spike that the country has witnessed so far. With last day’s figure, India has a total of 11,18,043 to its credit. Incidentally, India is only the third country to have crossed the 10 lakh mark, behind the USA and Brazil. The country has also registered 681 new deaths during the last 24 hours. With this, the pandemic has claimed a total of 27,497 lives from India so far. Ministry of Health informs that the active cases in India stands at 3,90,459, whereas a total of 7,00,087 got cured/discharged/migrated.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi continue to lead India’s Corona chart. However, for the past some days Delhi has consistently been showing less number of positive cases. ICMR statistics show that India has tested a total of 1,40,47,908 samples till day, with country testing a 2,56,039 samples last day. The rate at which new cases are being added to India’s tally is quite alarming, however, the rate of recovery gives some positive figure.
