Indian Railways has terminated a Rs 471 crore project contract with the Chinese company following the Ladakh conflict. The cancellation of the 417km signaling and telecom contract of the Kanpur-Deen Dayal Upadhyay Railway Section has been canceled. The contract with the Beijing National Railway Research and Design Institute of Signal Group has been canceled.
The Railways’ explanation is that the contract was closed due to delays in implementation of the project. The contract was signed in 2016. Even after four years, 20 per cent of the work has been completed. The project was funded by the World Bank.
