Covid 19 outbreak is on the rise in Kochi and Ernakulam districts. Of the 223 people tested in the past few days, 83 tested positive for Covid. The district administration reported only 20 out of 50 positive results in the district yesterday.
Hibi Eden MP has accused the government of hiding the number of Covid patients here. Sunil Kumar took the stage. The minister explained that one of the data entry staff in the office had been diagnosed with the disease and could not give the full account yesterday as everyone had to go to the quarantine.
Hibi Eden MP, meanwhile, said more than 50 per cent of those tested in wards 15, 16 and 17 were positive. Complete information on 66 patients has been obtained from here. According to government figures, it is only 34. The real details have not yet come out at the CM’s press conference. Patients from here are transferred to Covid centers after 12 noon. Hibi Eden called for an investigation into why the actual number of patients is so low.
In the last 12 days, only over 200 inspections have been conducted here. There is no doubt that there has been a more serious super spread here than in Poonthura. It is not clear why the government is hiding the data. No clear reply has been received from the District Collector in this regard. The collector said the state government should disclose this. Hibi Eden said there had been serious omissions from the health department.
As the situation in Chellana is deteriorating, three squads are going down and conducting inspections and the figures including the positive ones which could not be released yesterday will be released today. Sunil Kumar responded. In Ernakulam district, 405 people are currently undergoing Covid positive treatment. There are 93 in Kalamassery, 241 in Adlux and 71 in CIAL. Nine of them are in the ICU. None of these are in a dangerous situation. Preserving by giving oxygen without a ventilator.
The targeted test is performed in a situation where more people are positive in the Chellanam area. It has a protocol. All primary contacts, high-risk and symptomatic patients are fully screened. Tests are being conducted in four wards where the disease is serious. The tests are expected to be completed today.
101 samples are being collected from nearby Kannamali Kumbalangi areas. In Chellanam panchayath, five kilograms of rice allotted to all ration card holders has been delivered to ration shops for distribution. The rice will be delivered to the homes of those under surveillance with the help of volunteers. Panchayat representatives were directed to distribute food kits containing essential items to those under surveillance.
A total of 839 tests were conducted in government labs in the district yesterday. Currently three RTPCR devices are being used for testing in the district. One more device will be set up in the coming days. This will reduce the delay in testing the samples. It was also decided to strengthen surveillance in Kavalangad, Karumalur, Keermat and Kumbalangi panchayats. In the wake of the Covid outbreak, it has been decided to set up First Line Treatment Centers (FLTCs) with 10,000 beds in the district to ensure treatment for all those who are diagnosed with the disease.
Centers with an average capacity of 100 beds will be set up in all the local bodies. All local bodies will be directed to set up a telemedicine system to ensure treatment for non-Covid diseases, a swab collection center for sample collection and a double chamber vehicle for urgent needs. Two local volunteers will be assigned for service in the FLTCs. The FLTC will be set up within two days in the area where Covid disease is widespread.
