Google announces mass layoffs; 12,000 people will lose their jobs

Mass layoffs at Google’s parent company, Alphabet. The decision is to lay off 12,000 employees globally. Six percent of the company’s total employees are laid off. Google has also rocked the tech sector by announcing mass layoffs shortly after Microsoft announced plans to cut 10,000 jobs.

The company also sent an e-mail message to the employees who will be laid off. The company’s COE, Sundar Pichai, said in a message to the laid-off employees that the company has taken a necessary decision in the new financial situation and that he takes full responsibility for bringing it to this situation.

Although the action is global, the layoffs will be implemented first in the United States. The mass layoffs will affect the company’s recruiting, corporate function, engineering and product teams worldwide.
