The Election Commission of India (EC) has issued a fresh notification, which allows postal voting facility for those who are above 65 years of age, as well as Covid patients. The decision, taken in the wake of the Covid 19 pandemic, will from now onwards, allow even Covid patients to cast their vote.
While speaking about the latest move, officials maintained that people who are above 65 years of age are prone to catching Covid 19, which has appeared to be fatal to those who are above 65 years of age. That said, the Bihar assembly elections are scheduled to take place between October and November.
The Union Law Ministry has already issued a notification in this regard. Earlier, the Election Commission has amended the rules for casting postal votes last year, when it allowed people who are above 80 to cast their votes via postal voting. It is on the wake of the Covid pandemic that the EC has decided lowering the age category. According to the EC, the eligible candidates for casting postal votes, would be separately listed in the voter list.
