Cyclone Asani intensified into a severe cyclonic storm on Sunday evening as it headed in the direction of north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts , said the Met Department . It was first formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal. The intensified cyclone is very likely to move towards northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast.
The Met department in its forecast of Asani’s track and intensity said that the cyclone would lose some steam thereafter and turn into a cyclonic storm on Wednesday and further into a deep depression on Thursday.
“Adequate arrangements have been made by the Odisha state government for rescue operations”, said Odisha’s Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Jena. He also added that all the districts have been put on alert and collectors have been empowered to undertake evacuation, keeping in view the local situation.
Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim said that the disaster management teams have been put on alert following the weather forecast by the Met Department.
