Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the state was undergoing decisive moments as Covid is tightening the grip over the state. While addressing the media, CM said that several parts of the state are facing tremendous pressure as the number of Covid cases are increasing like never before. He mentioned about the gravity of the state, by citing the situation in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Ponnani and the rest.
Earlier the day, Minister VS Sunil Kumar addressed the press and said that the Chellanam fishing harbor has been closed down, since the medical department has found the presence of Covid. As the disease was confirmed to a woman, the 15th and 16th wards in Chellanam have been categorized as containment zones. Since couple of the positive cases had visited the Ernakulam General Hospital, 75 employees of the General Hospital were sent to quarantine.
Similarly, in Thiruvananthapuram, as an employee in the Saphalya Complex has turned positive, the complex was shut down. A lottery agent and a fish merchant too have become Covid positive and has reportedly made into contact with several people, all of which has made the state capital under tremendous pressure. Ponnani Taluk in Malappuram is yet another head ache for the government, as the health officials are suspecting of community spread. Earlier, the government had released a frantic report, which stated that two doctors from Edappal have had contact with more than 20,000 people – most of whom are from Ponnani. 3 have turned positive during the random sampling conducted in the Taluk.
