Kerala Cabinet has approved to hike the bus charges in the state. The decision was taken considering the recommendations of Justice Ramachandran Commission. According to the recommendations, the Cabinet has approved to hike bus fare, while not changing the minimum charge.
According to the revised charges, the minimum charge would remain Rs 8. However, the distance covered under the minimum has been halved. Right now, it is set as 2.5 km, as against the previous stage of 5 km. For journeys above 2.5 km, commuters would have to pay Rs. 10. On the other hand, the cabinet has rejected the demand for hiking the concession rates of students.
