Student commits suicide at Madras IIT, followed by another student’s suicide attempt; protest
A student committed suicide at Madras IIT. Stephen Sunny (25), a second-year student from Navi Mumbai, was found hanging dead in his hostel room on Monday evening.
Meanwhile, after this, another student also attempted suicide in the campus. A student from Karnataka attempted suicide. In the wake of both incidents, I.I.T. Students protested against the administration.
Stephen Sunny was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the Mahanadi hostel of the campus. The initial information given by the police is that he was depressed for a week. It is also reported that a note saying ‘Do not prosecute’ was found on Stephen’s laptop. The Koturpuram police registered a case and started an investigation into the incident.
