Kannada novelist, short story writer and translator Sarah Abubakar (86) passed away. It was around noon in Mangalore. Kasarkot is a native of Chemmanad. Permanent residence in Mangalore.
A prominent Kannada cultural activist and lecturer, Sara has won many awards in Kannada literature.
Born on 30 June 1936. She became notable in literature through her novel ‘Chandragiriya Thiradalli’. That novel was translated into Malayalam by C. Raghavan under the title Chandragirikarail. Sarah Abubakar was also a writer who constantly spoke for the upliftment of women in the Muslim community.
She is the daughter of Ahmed and Zainabi, a prominent advocate at the Kasaragod bar, Fort Road street, Kunnil Puthiyapurail. Her husband is the late Abu Bakar, who was an executive engineer in the Karnataka Housing Board. Chandragiriya Theeranalla, Kadama Virama, Sahana etc. are the major novels. Works such as Madhavikutty’s Manomi and PK Balakrishnan’s Ini Aman Suprayte etc. have been translated into Kannada.
